Some of the new rigs hitting the market are a thing of beauty in themselves but going down the custom CB radio route gives a special feel, look and ultimately better performance to a shiny new piece of radio kit.
Regardless of the way the finished custom radio looks there has to be something decent under the hood to start with, very little point in taking a poor example of a CB radio and prettying it up. Zombie Amps have been doing the custom thing for a while now and not happy to restrict their handy work to CB’s they also give “the treatment” to accessories like snazzy SWR meters.
Build quantities are kept small for each design which apart from going a long way to ensure it uniqueness can also give the resale price a nice boost should you ever decide to pass the radio on.
Custom Connex CX366CE Night Runner

Zombie artwork on the top panel, both sides and back of microphone. The Multi colored LED’s placed as the eyes of the skull on the top panel light up the moment the radio is turned on and randomly cycle through colors. Keying the microphone makes the LED’s burn very bright.

Custom Cobra 29 NW LTD Nightwatch Classic
Taking the classic Cobra look and mixing it up with some Zombie artwork the 29 NW has the top mounted LED’s the react when the microphone is keyed, green jeweled bracket studs and a performance boost in the shape of a Zombie Amps full tune up.
What Are You Getting Apart From Artwork?
Its nice to have a prettied up CB but that’s not all you should be looking for in a custom build. If your custom build isn’t getting a good tune up along with the artwork and any other “enhancements” then your buying for the wrong place!.
CB radios roll of production lines “as is” and although they still do a good job with received/transmitted audio and output power they can still be made much better by a skilled radio technician who knows their way around the guts of a CB radio.
Reputation has to be a big part of where you pick a custom build radio from with my first choice being those companies who have served the CB community for many years with their own products along with any modified equipment they release.
